Plenty of people publish blog posts every week and still get no traffic. The problem usually isn't effort — it's that the content wasn't built to rank. Writing posts Google loves isn't about tricks; it's about genuinely answering what people search for, better than the pages already ranking. Here's how.
Start with the search, not the topic
Before writing, know the exact keyword and the intent behind it. Someone searching "how to check google ranking" wants a how-to guide — not your company history. Match what they're actually looking for.
Google's job is to satisfy the searcher. Your job is to be the page that does it best.
Study what already ranks
Search your keyword and read the top five results. Notice their format, the questions they answer, and — crucially — what they miss. Your goal is to cover everything they cover, plus the gaps they leave.
Structure for readers and Google
- A clear, keyword-focused title that promises a specific answer.
- An intro that confirms the reader is in the right place.
- Descriptive H2 and H3 headings so both people and Google can scan the page.
- Short paragraphs and lists that are easy to read on a phone.
Write for humans first
Keyword stuffing is obvious and off-putting. Use your keyword naturally in the title, intro, and a heading or two — then just write clearly and helpfully. Google has gotten very good at rewarding content that genuinely helps people.
Add real depth and value
Don't just rephrase the top results. Add an example, a step-by-step, a personal insight, or original data. The pages that win are the ones that give readers something they can't get in one sentence from a search snippet.
Link it into your site
Point to your related posts and, where relevant, to your tools or key pages. Internal links help readers go deeper and help Google understand how your content fits together.
Publish, then improve
Your first draft rarely ranks #1. Publish it, check its ranking after a couple of weeks, and improve the pages stuck on page two — better answers, more depth, a sharper title. Content that ranks is usually content that got refined. Answer the search fully, write for people, and keep improving.
