You've published your page, you've waited, and it's still nowhere to be found on Google. Frustrating — but almost always fixable. Here are the ten most common reasons a page doesn't rank, and what to do about each one.
1. Google hasn't indexed the page yet
If a page isn't in Google's index, it can't rank at all. New pages can take days or weeks to appear. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console and request indexing for important pages.
2. The page is blocked from crawling
A stray noindex tag or a robots.txt rule can quietly hide a page from Google. Check that the page you want ranked isn't accidentally blocked.
3. The content is too thin
A few sentences rarely rank for competitive terms. Google favors pages that fully answer the question. Add depth, examples, and genuinely useful detail.
4. You're targeting the wrong keyword
Some keywords are dominated by huge, established sites. If you're brand new, target more specific, lower-competition phrases first and build up.
5. The page doesn't match search intent
If people searching a keyword want a comparison and your page is a sales pitch, Google won't rank it. Look at what already ranks and match that intent.
6. Weak on-page SEO
- Keyword missing from the title and first paragraph.
- No clear headings (H2/H3) structuring the content.
- A vague or missing meta description.
Fix these basics before anything else — they're free and they matter.
7. Little or no authority
Backlinks from other reputable sites tell Google your page is trustworthy. Without any, ranking for competitive terms is an uphill battle. Earn a few quality links over time.
8. Poor page experience
Slow loading, layout that jumps around, or a page that's hard to use on mobile all hurt rankings. Test your speed and fix the worst offenders.
9. You're just not tracking it
Sometimes the page is ranking — on page two or three — and you simply never checked. Use a rank checker to see your true position within the top 100 before assuming the worst.
10. You haven't given it time
SEO is slow. Even a great page can take weeks or months to climb. Keep improving it and keep checking your position — steady progress beats a single big push.
Most "we don't rank" problems come down to two things: the page isn't good enough yet, or you haven't checked where it actually stands.
Start with the data
Before you rewrite everything, find out where you really are. Run a quick check on your keyword and country, see your true position, then fix the issues above one by one. Check, improve, and watch your page climb.
